Willie Nile

Having studied philosophy at the University of Buffalo, Willie Nile began his musical career in Greenwich Village. After the New York Times music critic sang his praises, Clive Davis signed him to the Arista label.

His eponymous debut album came out in 1980, one magazine writing ‘Every song spins superb hooks with a Buddy Holly flair.’ It also praised his breathless, beatific lyrics and crisp Buddy Holly rhythms. Willie toured with the Who that summer and his second album, Golden Down, came out the following year.

Willie has recorded and performed with many artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett, Roger Daltrey, Billy Idol, Elvis Costello, Ian Hunter, Ringo Starr, Tori Amos, Carole King and Barenaked Ladies.
