Peter Asher

Peter Asher has contributed much to Buddy Holly’s legacy throughout his illustrious career in music. He and his schoolfriend Gordon Waller formed the duo Peter and Gordon in 1962 and they had a hit on both sides of the Atlantic three years later with their beautiful rendition of ‘True Love Ways’.

Their first and biggest hit was with Lennon and McCartney’s ‘A World Without Love’, which was followed by another of their songs, ‘Nobody I Know’. Paul McCartney wrote another song for them, ‘Woman’, under the pseudonym of Bernard Webb.

Peter would work with and produce many top artists after Peter and Gordon split up in 1968, initially taking charge of the A&R Department at The Beatles’ Apple Records. He signed and produced many multi-platinum albums for James Taylor, the first non-British artist to be released on the Apple label. Peter’s work with James led to further work with his sister Kate Taylor, who recommended him to Linda Ronstadt. As manager and producer, he oversaw further landmark releases with Linda, including several much- loved Buddy covers.

In 2011 Peter was the executive producer for Listen to Me: Buddy Holly, a compilation album which featured a cavalcade of musicians, many of whom subsequently joined the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation as ambassadors. He was also music supervisor, producer and co-host of the award-winning accompanying concert, which celebrated Buddy’s 75th birthday.
