Her songs have appeared on several movie soundtracks, and she has co-written with such eminent songwriters as Waylon Jennings, Beth Nielson Chapman and Emmylou Harris. Artists who have recorded her songs include Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler, Amy Grant, Trisha Yearwood and John Farnham.
Kimmie has released sixteen solo albums since her 1981 debut, named after her band Kimmie Rhodes and the Jackalope Brothers, which was recorded at the studio of the musician she credits as her mentor, Willie Nelson. Her further album releases have also seen duets with Joe Ely, Townes Van Zandt and Willie Nelson.
Kimmie has long been a mainstay of the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation songwriting retreats, and in 2018 she was asked by Maria Elena Holly to deliver an acceptance speech for Buddy Holly’s induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association Hall of Fame. ‘I am grateful to have met Maria Elena Holly, who has honored me as an ambassador for The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation. I cherish the opportunity to educate and co-write songs with aspiring new young talent.
My beautiful Buddy Holly guitar brings great joy and inspires me to remember the spirit of magic and fun that is at the soulful heart of all things Buddy!’
The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation is a registered charity in the United States and the United Kingdom, with a mission to extend musical education to new generations regardless of income or ethnicity or learning levels.
