Joe Brown

Joe Brown was hired by tv producer jack good in 1958 to be the lead guitarist for his new series Boy Meets Girls, and he was also in demand to play on the road with touring artists such as Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. Here, at just 17 years old, was where Joe Brown cut his teeth.

In the spring of 1960, Joe played lead guitar on Billy Fury’s debut LP, The Sound of Fury, which would later be recognised as the first true British blend of rock and roll and rockabilly. Later, Joe began to have hit singles under his own name, including ‘The Darktown Strutters’ Ball’, ‘A Picture of You’, ‘It Only Took a Minute’ and ‘That’s What Love Will Do’.

A highly respected guitarist, Joe also played the ukulele, including in his incredibly moving version of ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams’, performed for his close friend George Harrison at A Concert for George.

Joe has also been in six films, starred in shows in London’s West End, continues to write songs and undertakes over a hundred gigs a year. He remains a steadfast Buddy Holly fan.
